Over on Pardon Our Dust, a comment that I made about the relative merits of vinyl windows versus renovation and repair my existing wooden windows got a reply recommending _ Working Windows, Third Edition: A Guide to the Repair and Restoration of Wood Windows_ by Terry Meany, which is due out in the near future. You can pre-order from Amazon about $11. This beats the $50 cost for one of his out of print window repair manuals.
After some looking in Fine Homebuilding Magazine, I found one of their advertisers, Conservationtechnology.com, who have an array of seals that can be milled into existing woodwork. Weatherseal brochure.
