Weed barrier disaster

One of my neighbors thinks that essential garden elements include weed barrier cloth. They have thought this for years, since there's been no status change to this street side parking strip for at least that long. Don't do this.

  1. It's like a scab that needs picking.

  2. The best weed barrier I know of is Bark mulch applied yearly

  3. @KarenH - Thanks! I would have used that metaphor had I thought of it. Nice.

@Kevin Franck - Agree! My yard is mulched in many areas with wood chips that came for free with the removal of some undesirable trees. It's been a couple years, but so far it hasn't needed renewal.

  4. That reminds me, I have several pictures I took of mulch creating an alelopathic environment against weeds. I'll have to post it soon.

My mum's yard is so biologically diverse under the ground [which explains all the extremely healthy and happy above ground forest] that I've had to at times in the past apply mulch 3 or 4 times within a year because the biological mechanisms break it down so fast.
