Goodbye, Canada

I learned that there's a Mediterranean climate in Canada's coastal islands in the vicinity of Victoria. A Garry oak woodland on many of the islands is in decline. It shares characteristics with oak woodlands in California.









Below, the picture looks out at sunset on one of the mountain ranges that provides a rain shadow effect for the islands, decreasing annual rainfall from the nearby temperate rainforest (something like 1500 mm of rain versus 3600 mm.) Poor things. They were shocked when I mentioned Los Angeles' Mediterranean climate rainfall total of around 250mm.
